The Recreation Department received an allocation of $477,815 to rehabilitate Guv Fuller Field adjacent to Gus Canty Recreation Center. The funding was initially intended to 1) purchase and install an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)-compliant lift to the second floor of the press box including all related ramps, railings and graduated walkways, 2) excavate and replace existing dugouts including concrete path to dugout and slab adjacent to the dugout for ADA access, 3) install safety netting on first and third base sides, including new backstop, safety padding and gates, and 4) purchase and install replacement aluminum bleachers and associated concrete walks. The improvements were needed to provide safety and meet ADA requirements.

During project implementation, the need arose for more specific engineering design and project management, including procurement compliance, thus necessitating the need for an additional CPA funding request in 2020.

In addition, bids for construction came in higher than expected and this required more funding in 2021. Construction began in the winter of 2022 and the project will be completed in the spring of 2022; just in time to play ball.
